James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been engaging with patients, staff and communities on proposals for Future Paget, its vision for a new hospital building as part of the national New Hospital Programme. This is a transformative opportunity to not only replace the ageing infrastructure of the current hospital, but also to elevate local healthcare provision through modern design principles and facilities precisely tailored to the community's needs that is backed by Government funding.
Earlier this year, James Paget Hospital initiated extensive engagement with communities across Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, gathering invaluable feedback for the ‘Future Paget’ vision. This crucial input has been incorporated into the evolving design for the hospital’s outline planning application, which is anticipated to be submitted in October 2025.
The ‘Future Paget’ design is currently in its preliminary stages, and will be presented as a maximum 'outline' size within the application. Once submitted, comprehensive updates on the planning process will be readily accessible on the Great Yarmouth Borough Council's (GYBC) planning portal as the application progresses through the necessary stages.
James Paget Hospital is continuing to engage with local communities and extending an additional invitation to residents for upcoming, detailed engagement meetings. These sessions will focus on the ambitious plans for a completely new hospital building, and address concerns raised by those who are living closest to the hospital.
You can find more details about the 'Future Paget' vision by visiting https://www.jpaget.nhs.uk/about-us/our-strategies-plans-and-policies/our-new-hospital/our-future-paget-vision/.
To facilitate thorough and meaningful discussions, the hospital will be offering dedicated half-hour slots, allowing ample time for residents to provide their input and have their questions addressed. These sessions will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring fairness and accessibility for all interested parties.
Mark Flynn, Director of Strategic Projects at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust stated: "We understand that residents living in close proximity to the hospital site will naturally have questions and thoughts about the potential impact of the new hospital, both during its construction phase and once it is fully operational. Your views are incredibly important to us, and we want to offer you a direct and dedicated opportunity to meet with us, discuss your concerns, and share your valuable insights."
Residents living near the James Paget Hospital have been sent a letter with details of how to access appointments for these engagements.
