At a glittering evening at Great Yarmouth Town Hall on Friday, 26 September, our hospital celebrated its staff at the annual ‘Paget’s People’ award ceremony.
Across 15 award categories, over 170 in attendance at the ceremony found out who had won an award, selected from over 800 nominations that had been provided by patients and staff at the hospital.
The Paget’s People award ceremony was supported and delivered by the James Paget Hospital Charity, and the award categories were kindly sponsored by companies and patients that wished to show their recognition of the hospital and the hard work of staff.
This year’s Paget’s People Awards featured a range of categories, including longstanding awards such as Teams and Individuals of the Year, and the Gold Patient Choice award, sponsored by the Eastern Daily Press.
Our winners included:
Chloe Batty, who was nominated for embracing a new leadership role and providing consistent, attentive support for their team, won Paget’s Person of the Year in the Non-Clinical category, sponsored by Tesco Caister.
In the award highlighting the James Paget core value of ‘Respect’, Siji Blinto won the Respect award sponsored by Tesco Great Yarmouth, recognising their role in championing diversity and inclusion at the hospital, including helping to create a special event to celebrate the work and legacy of internationally-educated colleagues at the Trust.
The ‘Working Together’ award, sponsored by R G Carter, went to the Clinical Education and Practice Development Team (pictured above), who were praised for providing outstanding support to people accessing clinical learning at the James Paget, and liaising with teams and departments across the hospital.

Described as providing outstanding care for children and young people living with diabetes, as well as showing kindness and support for their families, Sarah Shreeve won the Paget’s Person of the Year in the Clinical category, sponsored by Haven Rotary 2.
The Team of the Year award in the Non-Clinical category went to the hospital’s Waste Team, who had overcome significant challenges to provide an indispensable service in helping the hospital run smoothly.
The ‘Rising Star’ award, also sponsored by Morgan Sindall, was won by Rachel Yong, who was described as a superb student and a brilliant nurse, and praised for their dedication in providing compassionate care.

The hospital’s Green Champions group won the Sustainability and Innovation award, sponsored by Morgan Sindall, for their collaborative work in bringing together staff from a range of different services and professional backgrounds to support sustainable initiatives across the James Paget.
In the Clinical category, the Team of the Year went to the Critical Care Outreach Team, who were commended not only supporting each other in a vital service, but also empowering the wider care teams around them to ensure that every patient receives the highest standard of care often in the most critical moments.
Both Team awards were sponsored by Plumbase.
‘Volunteer of the Year’, sponsored by Tesco Lowestoft, went to Brenda Rawlinson, who has provided a comforting presence to patients at the end of their lives, especially those that may not have any family or visitors present, by reading stories and playing calming music.

Gemma Lister won the ‘Change Leader’ award, sponsored by Haven Rotary, for her dedication to helping the most vulnerable members of our community access the care they need at the James Paget, and leading training to improve the support provided by staff.
The hospital’s Governors’ Award, sponsored by Capsticks, went to Sam Nelson, recognising their work in helping patients going through chemotherapy treatment and cancer diagnosis in maintaining their mobility, and for their reassurance and commitment to helping patients throughout their cancer diagnosis.
Jennifer Parsons won the ‘Outstanding Leadership’ award, sponsored by Tesco Great Yarmouth, for their role as a ward manager, and the relentless commitment to supporting patients, often with complex needs, obtain the best care, working hard to refer to other specialist hospitals where needed.

Dr Shane Gordon, Executive Managing Director of the James Paget, presented their Commendation to the Lung Cancer Screening Team for their pioneering work in identifying lung cancer earlier, which has seen the Paget lead the way in a programme which is now being rolled out across Norfolk and Waveney. This award was sponsored by Darwin Group.
The Chair’s Commendation was awarded Mr Kamal Aryal for his work in fundraising for the Howes Robot, the James Paget’s surgical robot system, and their leadership in helping train and guide the surgical teams in using the system to its full potential.
And we'd like to thank all the sponsors of our awards.
