Prestigious award for Peter

A senior manager at the James Paget has received a prestigious award for helping more than 70 local students gain supported work placements at the hospital.

Peter Huttley, who is the hospital’s Head of Facilities Management, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by East Coast College for his work with Project Search over the last 15 years.

Project Search is a work-based study programme for young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND) who want to move into employment. It is run as a collaboration between colleges and local employers, giving students an opportunity to take their first steps into the world of employment through a combination of classroom sessions and a variety of on-site work placements.

Peter received his award to recognise his key role in supporting and promoting work placements at the hospital since the College launched the initiative in 2010.

At a ceremony held at Great Yarmouth Minster last month, Peter received the Honorary Fellowship from East Coast College Principal and Chief Executive Officer Paul Padda.

Peter’s citation at the ceremony described him as a ‘selfless and dedicated individual who has shown a remarkable commitment’ to Project Search.

The citation continued: “Peter has played a crucial role in the success of over 70 students, driven by his genuine desire to help them achieve and succeed in the world of work…. his concern for each student is evident in his relentless efforts to ensure they all receive the best possible opportunities.

“Peter’s determination to establish a genuinely diverse and inclusive working environment has benefitted not only our students, but also the wider community, the families, the NHS and Peter’s colleagues within the trust.”

Since its inception, East Coast College has awarded Fellowships to people it considers distinguished ambassadors, due to their work and support to the local community that the college serves.

“I am delighted to have received this award,” said Peter, who has worked at the James Paget for 20 years.

“There are many individuals that contribute towards the success of this amazing project and without their continued support, it would not be the success that it is,” he added.
