Maternity ward successfully return to Ward 11

Ward 11, the James Paget’s Maternity ward, has successfully moved back to its original location, after being temporarily relocated to Ward 7.

Families and staff safely moved back into Ward 11 on Tuesday 26th August, following substantial work to secure reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) roof panels on the ward, and also improve the internal layout of the ward to support mothers and families while in the care of our maternity team.

The first phase of the refurbishment of Ward 11 includes improved bed bays and side room environments for people who have given birth and their visitors, as well as new office and rest areas for midwives and staff working on the ward. A modern triage area for expecting parents will be opened up on Ward 11 in the coming months.

The relocation, refurbishment and return of Ward 11 was a collaborative project, supported by (pictured, left to right) Charlotte Underdown, Project Manager - Maternity Services; Jodie Ash, Manager – Ward 11; Danni Hay, Project Manager – Capital Planning Team; and Steve McIntosh, Project Manager – Estates and Facilities Team.

Work continues on the James Paget’s programme of securing RAAC panels across its estate. Ward 12, our Older People’s Medicine ward, will soon be relocated to Ward 7 while work is completed in this area.
