A team of staff from the James Paget completed the Blickling half marathon on Sunday, raising hundreds of pounds for our hospital charity’s Robot Appeal in the process.
We’re currently working to raise £1.6million for a new robot that can be used by our surgeons to allow surgeries to be performed with more precision and through smaller incisions.
The surgical robot will provide local patients with access to advanced healthcare interventions and will allow our experienced team to train future surgeons and to develop research in robotic and minimal invasive surgery. This will benefit a number of specialities such as colorectal surgery, gynaecology, general surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery, urology and our ear, nose and throat teams. The robot will also benefit our patients, allowing specialist surgery to be carried out closer to home, decreasing the length of stay in hospital, reducing post-operative complications and lowering readmission rates.
Our team – including doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and support staff – are getting involved in fundraising for the robot and on Sunday, 19 March, more than a dozen, including our Charity Manager Maxine Taylor, took part in the 13.1 mile half marathon starting from Blickling Hall.
Each runner had to raise a minimum of £100 and, while a total will take a little time to finalise, it is already clear that the team between them will have raised thousands towards the appeal.
If you would like to make a donation to our runners you can do so via any of the fundraising pages below or you can visit https://www.jpaget-charity.org.uk/Appeal/surgical-robot-appeal or contact our charity office at charity@jpaget.nhs.uk or 01493 453348.
