Dr Rob Major has been appointed as the substantive Chief Medical Officer at James Paget Hospital.
Rob joined the James Paget in August 2024 as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine, and as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the Trust, and has been in the role as Chief Medical Officer on a short term basis. He has a background in emergency care, the air ambulance service, and the military.
Rob has now been appointed as our substantive Chief Medical Officer following a robust interview process, involving a stakeholder and interview panels drawn from the James Paget’s site team, Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group, and local health and care system.

Dr Major trained in the East of England and has worked as a consultant in several emergency departments in the region. He retired in 2022 as a Lieutenant Colonel, and Senior Medical Officer, after a career in the British Army (Reserves). He previously worked as a Deputy Medical Director at the East Anglian Air Ambulance, responsible for research and education, and his areas of expertise are research, leadership, and pre-hospital emergency medicine.
