James Paget Hospital formally recognised the opening of its new Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit on Tuesday 4th November 2025.
The unit opened to patients on Wednesday 29th October, and has seen over 450 patients in its first week of operation. Thank you to all staff and patients that have been involved in supporting the transition to the new SDEC facility, and provided feedback as we move to this new way of providing emergency care.
SDEC is a service that provides emergency medical care and treatment to patients without the need for hospital admission, allowing them to be assessed, diagnosed, and treated on the same day they arrive.
The SDEC unit was opened by Lady Dannatt, Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, with colleagues from the Trust’s Executive and Divisional leadership and operational staff in attendance, as well as representatives from partner organisations in Norfolk and Waveney’s Integrated Care System, including East Coast Community Healthcare, East of England Ambulance Trust, and Norfolk and Waveney ICB.
