Raising awareness of the health inequalities faced by the LGBT+ Armed Forces community

June is Pride Month and our Armed Forces Support Officer Kath Hutton is raising awareness of the health inequalities faced by the LGBT+ Armed Forces community.

LGBT+ veterans are seen as a population with health inequalities, with higher prevalence of mental health issues and substance misuse and, by raising awareness, it is hoped that some of the barriers faced can be overcome to create a more inclusive and supportive environment.

Among the organisations supporting LGBT+ veterans is Fighting with Pride - https://www.fightingwithpride.org.uk/

They are here to support LGBT+ Veterans, serving personnel and their families, particularly those who were affected by the ‘gay ban’, ultimately lifted in January 2000.

Before then, thousands of LGBT+ service personnel were removed or forced from service and abandoned, after serving with pride.
