The Maternity Assessment Unit is where you will be asked to attend if you require follow-up antenatal care that cannot be undertaken by your Community Midwife or in Antenatal Clinic.
If you have newly presenting concerns about you or your baby you must contact Maternity Triage on 01493 452480 for an initial assessment.
You may be referred to MAU if you require follow-up care, this might include:
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Regular monitoring for severe itching in pregnancy
- Regular monitoring of you and your baby if your waters have broken
- Monitoring of your baby(babies) if this has been recommended following a review in Maternity Triage
- Presentation scan for your baby
- To discuss care planning if your pregnancy continues beyond 41 weeks’ gestation
- Pre-operative assessment if you have a planned caesarean birth
Or any other issue which requires additional monitoring.
You will be seen by a Midwife or Maternity Support Worker initially and, if required, you may be seen by a Doctor.
We operate an appointment system to minimise waiting times. If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know so that we can rebook for another person. Sometimes you will be asked to wait in our waiting room for test results, or to plan for your care, before going home.
