Norwich Medical School

Our Education Centre - a side view of the entrance to the centre, a grey double-storey building with a white canopyThe University of East Anglia (UEA) Medical School opened at the James Paget University Hospital in 2002 and in 2006 we obtained University Hospital status. This development has delivered tremendous benefits for our patients in raising the quality of care and the profile of the Trust with its high quality of medical education, with the establishment of the Faculty of Health at the University of East Anglia and our excellent links with the Norwich Medical School here at the James Paget University Hospital.

It has highlighted the importance of the JPUH as a teaching and training centre, and the key role it plays both in developing a new generation of health professionals and continuing to develop a hospital workforce that is ‘fit for purpose’. It also gives us the opportunity to recruit the best staff to work here, providing excellent services to the people in Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

It is a joint venture with the University of East Anglia; Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital; Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn; Ipswich Hospital; Colchester General Hospital; Norfolk Mental Health and General Practitioners in the area.

We also work closely with the University of Suffolk - please see 'related links' on the left and click through for more details of the courses offered.

Education & Training Centre

One of the most exciting developments on the JPUH site in recent years was to build the Education and Training Centre, which opened in January 2006 and provides the base for our Medical School.
In 2013 the Trust invested in creating a new conferencing, research and library facility in the Burrage Centre.

The Education & Training Centre is on the side of the hospital by the helipad. If you enter the hospital by the A12 entrance and turn left, follow the road around the hospital.  The Norwich Medical School office is located in the Education & Training Centre.
